Eating Fresh – Fruits and Vegetables

Eating local, eating fresh, easting seasonally – these are all terms we hear more and more about these days. The reality is – it’s fresher, more sustainable, more economical, more tasty and better for us that eating a diet filled with prepackaged, processed food.

We are blessed to have a great farmers’ market that sets up just a few blocks from our home every Saturday from May through October. This year – our Saturday morning routine has included a walk to the farmers market to pick up fruit, vegetables and greens for the upcoming week. We also try to pick up one fresh food that we haven’t tried before, or that we like but haven’t tried cooking with it. This has lead to a search for great recipes and cookbooks that feature eating fresh, seasonally and local. I’ve found a few great cookbooks to add to the bookshelf.

Eating healthy is so important – anytime I can squeeze more fresh fruit and vegetables into out diet – it’s a good thing. Even better news is that it’s becoming easier and easier to do and the range of recipes to try out is simply amazing. Do you have a favorite cookbook that features fresh seasonal recipes? Let me know what it is – I’d love to check it out and include it on the bookshelf.

Happy (healthy) eating!
